In 1999, Rick completed his doctorate and accepted a position as professor of teacher education at Central Washington University (CWU). In 2001, Rick continued his professional career with the Ellensburg, Washington School District as Athletic Director thru 2008, he then returned to CWU to develop and direct their Athletic Administration Master’s Program. Rick retired in 2013. Through his years as a teacher, professor, and coach, he came to believe that good teachers and coaches understand the evolving nature of teaching and coaching and look for ways to adapt and improve. As professionals, they accept the challenge to improve their classroom skills and identify and apply coaching and playing techniques and strategies that keep their classrooms stimulating and their teams competitive. By doing so, they give students and players the opportunity to be responsible, confident, and humble people.
